Crawl Space Solutions
In Woods Cross Roads, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
