Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
