Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
