Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
