Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
