Crawl Space Solutions
In Woods Cross Roads, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
