Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
