Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
