Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
