Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
