Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
