Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
