Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
