Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
