Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
