Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
