Crawl Space Solutions
In Virginia Beach, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
