Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
