Crawl Space Solutions
In Virginia Beach, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
