Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
