Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
