Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
