Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
