Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
