Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
