Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
