Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
