Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
