Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
