Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
