Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
