Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
