Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
