Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
