Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
