Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair

Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
