Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
