Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
