Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
