Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
