Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
