Crawl Space Solutions
In Irvington, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
