Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
