Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
