Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
