Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
