Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
