Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
