Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
