In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew.
