Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
