Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
