Crawl Space Solutions
In Hudgins, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
