Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
