Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
