Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
