Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
