It is very important that if you see an issue with the crawl space or foundation that you reach out to an experienced repair company. We say this as there are quite a few additional problems that can happen along with these issues including mildew, weakened structure, and even permanent foundation damage. If you are needing our foundation repair products to stop foundation issues, or crawl space services to control humidity below the home, our team is here to help you.
Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
