Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
