Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
