Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
