Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
