Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
