Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
