Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
