Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
