Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
