Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
