Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
