Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
