Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
