Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
