Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
