Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
