Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
