Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
