Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
