Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
