Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
