Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
