Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
