Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
