Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
