Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
