Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
