Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
