Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
