Crawl Space Solutions
In Hampton, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
