Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
