Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
