Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
