Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
