Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
