Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
