Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
