Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
