Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
