Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
