Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
