Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
