Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
