Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
