Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
