Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
