Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
