Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
