Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
