Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
