Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
