Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
