Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
