Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
