Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
