Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
