Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
