Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
