Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
