Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
