Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
