Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
