Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
