Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
