Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
