Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
