Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
