Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
