Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
