Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
