Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
