Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
