Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
