Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
