Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
