Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.

This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
