Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
