Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
