Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
