Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
