Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
