Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
