Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
