Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
