Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
