Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
