Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
