Crawl Space Solutions

In Franklin, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair

Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
