Crawl Space Solutions
In Franklin, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
