Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
