Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
