Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
