Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
