Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
