Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
