Crawl Space Solutions
In Franklin, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
