Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
