Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
