Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
