Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
