Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
