Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
