Crawl Space Solutions
In Foster, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
