Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
