Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
