Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
