Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
