Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
