Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
