Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
