Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
