Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
