Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
