Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
