Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
