Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
