Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
