Crawl Space Solutions
In Fort Eustis, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
