Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
