Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
