Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
