Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
