Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
