Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
