Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
