Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
