Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
