Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
