Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
