Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
