Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
