Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
