Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
