Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
