Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
