Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
