Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair product designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
