Crawl Space Solutions
In Exmore, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
