Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
