Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
