Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
