Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
