Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
