Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
