Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
