Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
