Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
