Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
