Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
