Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
