Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
