Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
