Crawl Space Solutions

In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.

This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage.
