Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
