Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
