Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
