Crawl Space Solutions
In Dendron, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
