Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
