Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
