Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
