Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
