Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
