Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
