Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
