Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
