Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
