Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
