Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
