Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
