Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
