Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
