Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
