Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
