Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
