Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
