Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
