Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
