Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
