Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
