Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
