Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
