Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
