Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
