Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
