Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
