Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
