Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
