Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
