Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
