Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
