Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
