Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
