Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
