Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
