Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
