Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
