Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
