Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
