Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
