Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
