Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
