Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
