Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
