Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
