Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
