Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
