Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
