Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
