Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at evaluating those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
