Crawl Space Solutions

In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.

We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
