Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
