Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at evaluating those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
