Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage.
