Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
