Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
