Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
