Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down these problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
