Crawl Space Solutions
In Birdsnest, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
