Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
