Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
