Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
