Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
