Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
