Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
