Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
