Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a uneven foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
