Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
