Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
