Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
