Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
