Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
