Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
