Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
