Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
