In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
