Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down these issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
