Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been encapsulating crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product designed for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
