Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
