Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
