Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
