Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair product designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
