Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at tracking down those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
