Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
