Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a system of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those problems. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
