Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
