Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can utilize a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
