Crawl Space Solutions
In Belle Haven, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
