Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
