Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing these problems. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sloping foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
