Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at evaluating these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
