Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at tracking down those problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
