Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows or doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting those issues. We can utilize a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
