Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves as diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows and doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a settling foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
