Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For a long time, they were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sloping foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
