Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at noticing these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
