Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For a long time, these were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to seal them off and control the humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product that is for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
