Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at noticing these problems. We can utilize a repair product that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
