Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop rodents and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to level sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
