Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been encapsulating crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent bugs and animals from settling in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
