Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sloping foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
