Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl spaces and not basements. For many years, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will close off the area completely and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from settling in the crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product designed for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a uneven foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
