Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
