Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can close off the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
