Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
