Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, they were constructed with vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. If you have any foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
