Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the best way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can close off the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop rodents and animals from getting in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, normally they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
