Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space closed off from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. This is done using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area completely and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to repair sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at spotting these problems. We can implement a repair solution designed for your exact issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sloping foundation, we can install a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
