Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and controlling excess humidity can improve the overall air quality in your home.
We have been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also is the basement walls. If you've got foundation problems, usually, they will show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that your windows or doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem problematic at first, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that many foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at tracking down those issues. We can offer a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
