Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces instead of basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent pests and animals from settling in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to level sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the building itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic when you notice them, each of them are indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at tracking down these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
