Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the outside and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
We have been dealing with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area totally and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally present themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will get stuck or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem serious at first, each of them are indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down these issues. We can offer a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
