Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, many of the homes are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in when it rains or snows and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so ensuring the crawl space is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the most efficient way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, they will generally present themselves as stair-step cracks in the outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the doors or windows will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be performed.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at evaluating those issues. We can offer a repair product intended for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
