Crawl Space Solutions
In Accomac, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces instead of basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were built with vents which was intended to increase air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents hinder airflow which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the best way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. This will also prevent critters and animals from moving in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves as stair-step cracks in the brickwork, long cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that the doors or windows will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. While these problems may not seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
It is good that the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our team is very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair product that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
