Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, they were built with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space when it rains or snows and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to half of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been working with crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, which are strong plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also stop critters and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we will install a system of sagging floor jacks to stabilize sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important areas of the home. It not only supports the building itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your doors or windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious when you notice them, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our experts are very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair product intended for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a settling foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
