Crawl Space Solutions
In Accomac, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were created with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to 50% of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a sturdy door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Closing the area will also stop pests and animals from getting in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is closed off, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to repair sagging floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as stair stepping cracks in your outside brickwork, long cracks that run along the foundation or along basement walls. You may also notice that your windows and doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems to determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at spotting those problems. We can offer a repair product intended for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
