Crawl Space Solutions
In the greater Virginia Beach area, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces in addition to basements. For many years, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow into the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which results in the humidity level staying too high which can harbor the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control the humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are thick plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will close off the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent critters and animals from getting in the crawl space which will help keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sloping floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
The homes foundation is quite possibly one of the most important parts. It not only supports the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, normally they will present themselves as stair stepping cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem serious at first, they are all indicative of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for problems and determine if a repair needs to be in place.
It is good that many foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at spotting these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If there is a sinking foundation, we will implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
