Crawl Space Solutions
In Accomac, many of the homes were built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, these were built with open vents which was intended to increase air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to half of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces as long as we have been in business and we know the best way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, which are thick plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Closing the area will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will help keep any equipment there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is protected, if you need it we can install a series of floor jacks to level sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of the most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, normally they will show themselves as diagonal cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or along basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your windows or doors will stick when you open or close them or even cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our team is very good at noticing those issues. We can implement a repair solution intended for your particular issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a uneven foundation, we can install a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. The location and amount of sinking will determine if we use helical or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
