Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For many years, these were constructed with open vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the area and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. The vents allow water to get in during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can foster the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to ½ of the air in your home has come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is closed off from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been enclosing crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to close them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are sturdy plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that will close off the area completely and stop any excess moisture from entering. This will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After the crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a system of floor jacks to level sloping floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the structure itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves as stair stepping cracks in the brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. You may also notice that the doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem problematic at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be performed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems are caused by similar things and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair solution intended for your specific issue to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If you've got a sloping foundation, we will implement a system of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. We will install either push piers or helical piers, depending on where and how bad the sinking is. Both types of piers are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
