Crawl Space Solutions
In Accomac, there are many homes that are built with crawl spaces and not basements. As long as there have been crawl spaces, they were created with open vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. Having open vents allows water to get in during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually harbor the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home enters through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and keeping the humidity levels low can improve the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. This is done using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a thick liner or vapor barrier, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheets as well as covers to close off existing vents and a sturdy door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in the crawl space which will help keep any appliances there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once your crawl space is encapsulated, if necessary we can install a system of floor jacks to repair sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is easily one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only holds the home itself but it also creates the basement walls. If there are foundation problems, usually, they will manifest themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, cracks that run the length of the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors will get stuck or even cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these problems seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation which should be looked at by a professional for problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our team is very good at noticing those problems. We can utilize a repair solution designed for your specific problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation or walls. If there is a sinking foundation, we can implement a system of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types of piers are very strong and can stabilize your foundation.
