Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For a long time, these were created with open vents to the outside where were intended to help air flow into the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, the opposite is usually what happens. The vents allow water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Studies have shown that up to 50% of the air in your home can come up through the crawl space so ensuring this area is protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity can increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been helping customers with their crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the proper way to seal them off and control high humidity. This is done using a method called encapsulation which is the installation of a series of vapor barriers, occasionally installed with insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that can seal the area totally and prevent any excess moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also prevent bugs and animals from getting in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is protected, if necessary we can install a series of sagging floor jacks to lift sagging floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is easily one of the most important parts. It not only supports the structure itself but it also creates the basement walls. When you've got foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or across basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that your doors and windows will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem serious at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for particular problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, many foundation problems have very similar causes and our professionals are very good at tracking down those problems. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you've got a uneven foundation, we can implement a series of foundation piers to stabilize the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both types are very strong and are able to stabilize your foundation.
