Crawl Space Solutions
In Accomac, many of the homes were built with crawl space areas and not basements. For many years, these were created with vents to the outside where were intended to help fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and then it never leaves which causes the humidity levels to stay high which will eventually facilitate the growth of mildew. We have found that up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the elements and keeping the humidity levels low will increase the overall air quality in your home.
Our team has been enclosing crawl spaces since 1995 and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control excess humidity. We do this using a process called encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are strong plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as vent covers and a heavy duty door that will seal the area completely and stop any unwanted moisture from entering. Encapsulation will also stop bugs and animals from settling in the crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. After your crawl space is encapsulated, if you need it we will install a series of floor jacks to lift sinking floors above the crawl space.
Structural Foundation Repair
Your foundation is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important areas of the home. It not only supports the home itself but it also forms the basement walls. When you have any foundation problems, usually, they will present themselves in the form of stair-step cracks in your outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run along the foundation or along the basement walls. You may also notice that your doors will not open or close easily or there may be cracks at the corners of them. While these issues may not seem critical at first, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and they should be evaluated by an expert for specific problems and determine what type of a repair needs to be in place.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems have very similar causes and our experts are very good at tracking down those issues. We can utilize a repair solution that is for your exact problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If you have a settling foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to correct the problem. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
