Crawl Space Solutions
In our area, there are many homes that are built with crawl space areas in addition to basements. For a long time, these were created with vents which was intended to increase fresh air flow through the space and keep it dry. Unfortunately, this is rarely what happens. Having open vents allows water to enter the space during rain and snow storms and the vents prevent proper evaporation which results in the humidity level staying too high which can facilitate the growth of mildew. Up to ½ of the air in your home comes up through the crawl space so having the space protected from the weather and controlling excess humidity will increase the overall air quality in your home.
JB Design has been working on crawl spaces since we opened our doors and we know the most efficient way to seal them off and control high humidity. We do this using a method known as encapsulation which is the installation of a heavy duty liner, sometimes accompanied by insulation products, and are heavy duty plastic and vinyl sheeting as well as covers to close off existing vents and a heavy duty door that will seal the area totally and prevent any unwanted moisture from entering. This will also prevent rodents and animals from moving in your crawl space which will keep any items there safe and allow you to use it for storage. Once the crawl space is protected, if necessary we will install a series of floor jacks to stabilize sinking floors in your home.
Structural Foundation Repair
The foundation of your home is quite possibly one of, if not the, most important parts. It not only holds the building itself but it also is the basement walls. When there are foundation problems, they will generally show themselves in the form of diagonal cracks in the outside brickwork, horizontal cracks that run the length of the foundation or across the basement walls. Sometimes, you will see that the windows will stick when you open or close them or there may be cracks at the corners of them. You may not think these issues seem critical when you notice them, they are all indicators of a sinking or settling foundation and it is important to have an expert evaluate the foundation for specific problems to determine if a repair needs to be installed.
Thankfully, the most common foundation problems stem from similar issues and our professionals are very good at evaluating these issues. We can implement a repair solution that is for your particular problem to permanently repair and stabilize the foundation. If the problem is a sinking foundation, we will install a series of foundation piers to level the foundation. Depending on how bad it is and where it is, we will use either helical piers or push piers. Both are very strong and can help stabilize your foundation.
